NEW LAWS FOR THE PL SEASON The new laws officially came into force on June 1 A number of new laws will come into force for the first time in the Premier League when the season kicks off on August 13… The International Football Association Board (IFAB) announced more than 95 alterations to the laws of the game last season after 18 months of consultation, with many of the changes trialled at Euro 2016. Here's an overview of some of the major amendments… CHANGE 1: Kick-off The kick-off restart can now go backwards As seen at Euro 2016, the ball no longer has to go forward at kick-off. The previous law stated the ball had to go into the opposition half at the restart, but it has been changed to allow it to move in any direction, as long as it "clearly moves". photos: Anthony Martial Shows He’s Committed, Starts Following Manchester United Back On Social Media Manchester United fans have experienced a strange couple of days, after news broke on Saturday night that Anthony Martial has stopped following the Red Devils on social media. The social media follow/not follow updates came about as Zlatan Ibrahimovic made it public knowledge that he’ll wear the #9 shirt at Old Trafford in 2016-17. Martial had worn that number last season, while the French forward was given the number eleven shirt instead. The rumours did the rounds that Martial was upset with United, and some fans even feared he could leave the club as a result. Martial starts following again On Monday, Anthony Martial ended the whole story as he started following Man United on social media once more. 38 women and children rescued from Boko Haram terrorists – The army in a clearing operation killed 42 terrorists – The operation also led to the rescue of 38 women who were held hostage by the terrorists – They rescued women and children are receiving treatment at a medical centre The Nigerian army has continued its onslaught against Boko Haram terrorists as its latest offensive operation resulted in the rescue of 38 women and 42 children. In a statement issued by Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman who is the spokesperson of the army, he said the clearance operation code-named Operation Tiger claws was carried out on Tuesday, July 19 at Garere village in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno state. During the ensuing operation, 42 Boko Haram terrorists were killed while others fled with gunshot wounds. Early this morning, thespian Omobukola Ajayi popularly known as Bukky Ajayi died in her home in Lagos. Though the family is yet to release the cause of death, close source to the family says she has been suffering from complications from diabetes which she has lived with for a long time. The actress had been off the screens for a  long time, but earlier this year, the public got to see her once again as she came in a wheel chair to receive a Merit Award at the Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCA), which held in March. As if she had prior knowledge of her impending death and had known that  the awards was her last public appearance. At the awards she made this statement; “if I have offended anyone, they should please forgive me and if you think you have offended me you are forgiven.” She also spoke a bit about her waning health, “I hope I can stand up but if I do that I will fall down,” she said while receiving the award on a wheelchair. Apple is holding early talks about acquiring Jay Z’s music streaming service, Tidal, according to the Wall Street Journal. The newspaper, citing unnamed sources, characterized the talks as “ongoing” and said they might not lead to a deal. The news comes after reports that Tidal has been shopping for potential buyers, including holding talks last year with Napster, the company formally called Rhapsody. The sale of Tidal, which Jay Z launched last year with support from artists including Kanye West, Rihanna and Madonna, would bring about consolidation in an increasingly competitive music streaming space. Spotify remains the largest service with 30 million subscribers. Apple joined the fray in 2015 with Apple Music and already boasts 15 million members. Tidal, meanwhile, has more than doubled its subscriber base in the last six months, from 1 million to just over 3 million, according to CEO Jeff Toig, largely on the strength of its artist exclusives with the likes of West and Beyonce.
